While attending the International Meeting on Peace Education in Rome, philosopher Gabrielle Halpern participated in the Congress of the Dicastery for Culture and Education at the Vatican.

"Our world is suffering from a lack of hybridization; it is suffocating within the boxes where we confine others—and ourselves. We have created absurd, artificial boundaries between generations, professions, and territories; between the public and private spheres; between culture and the economy, ecology and society, technology and craftsmanship, city and countryside, and manual and intellectual knowledge. We have spent centuries viewing the world in a fragmented way, and this has shaped our professions, our work organization, our industries, and the development of our sciences, schools, and public policies. We have gradually turned categories into fortresses, leaving everyone isolated like an island in the middle of the ocean", Gabrielle Halpern
"In *Magnifica Humanitas*, His Holiness wrote of the urgent need to safeguard our humanity in the age of artificial intelligence. Yet AI does more than threaten our humanity; it also reveals our inhumanity. If an artificial intelligence tool like ChatGPT displays more empathy than doctors, more patience than teachers, more kindness than neighbors, more tolerance than friends, greater listening skills or availability than parents, and more benevolence than colleagues, should this not shake us into relearning patience, empathy, listening, tolerance, kindness, and fraternity? The real question we must ask ourselves in the face of artificial intelligence is this: is it not we humans who have abandoned the ground of humanism? And is it not astonishing to now cry scandal over the "great replacement" of human beings by technology? Lacking the courage to embrace our own humanity, is it not all too easy to delegate it to artificial intelligence? Artificial intelligence shines a spotlight on our failures, contradictions, and absurdities. By acting as our "bad conscience," it invites us to radically question ourselves", Gabrielle Halpern
"And above all, if AI knows everything, what will we teach children in school tomorrow? We know our history books by heart, yet we never learn the lessons of the past! What is the meaning of our knowledge? What is the meaning of our science? We send rockets to the moon and develop medical treatments that allow us to live to be 120, yet we have elderly people languishing alone in their homes. We have expanded our science but let our hearts shrink", Gabrielle Halpern
"While it is very easy to have faith in artificial intelligence, and easy to have faith in God, is it not far more difficult to have faith in human beings? To my mind, that is the great question of the 21st century", Gabrielle Halpern
