Famous for the philosophical concept of hybridization that she created, philosopher Gabrielle Halpern, who gives lectures around the world on this subject, gave an interview to the media outlet The Choice powered by ESCP.

"Hybridisation is the art of making improbable marriages. It is the idea of putting together people, skills, professions, firms, sectors, cultures, activities, generations, sciences, materials, that seem very different from each other or that may seem contradictory and by this meeting, you create something completely new: new places, new uses, new products, new services, new models… By building bridges between different things, you create new worlds!", Gabrielle Halpern

"Hybridization is totally different from mixing, compromise or coexistence, because mixing tends to be heard as « fusion », which is not at all what I mean by hybridization. Compromise or coexistence tend to be heard as « juxtaposition ». Hybridization is different : it is a « reciprocal metamorphosis", Gabrielle Halpern

"Hybridization is a wonderful way to boost creativity and innovation. For example, we’re seeing surprising links between sectors that seemed to have nothing to do with each other: the automotive sector and the health sector. Indeed, some car manufacturers believe that the car of tomorrow, the truly hybrid car of tomorrow will be a “service car”. They are therefore approaching the world of health to transform the car into a medical cabin able to give us real- time information on our state of health, our blood pressure for example. Another example of hybridization between sectors is the one between real estate professionals and the health sector to build the housing of tomorrow. Indeed, with the aging of the population, tomorrow, bathrooms will become treatment rooms, so the choice of construction materials is important. Therefore, we will choose antibacterial tiles for future bathrooms! Another example of hybridisation between sectors is the one in luxury made by a spirits company. Indeed, it has led a form of hybridisation between the world of spirits and that of perfume. The idea was to transfer the spirit manufacture process to the world of perfumes: perfumes have matured in small oaks barrels and the result is very interesting! This new generation of perfumes is a beautiful example of hybridization between worlds, expertise, imagination, methods and manufacturing process. We see here how an improbable marriage between two worlds has led to the creation of a third one!", Gabrielle Halpern
